‘Corre Libre’ Micah True Memorial Run
On the side of Micah's cabin in Batopilas is now written "Caballo Blanco is not dead because he lives in the hearts of Raramuri runners." This weekend Raramuri runners honored Micah with a run on some of his favorite trails in the majestic Sierra Tarahumara. The race ended in the Raramuri village of Sorichiqui with a festival full of music, dancing, lots of food, tesguino and celebration.
True Messages is honored to have supported this event. (more)
Backyard Ultra World Championships
True Messages was created to continue the ‘Messages’ and projects began by Micah True (El Caballo Blanco) in honor and support of the Raramuri peoples and culture. Most important in all our Messages and projects is discovering opportunities. Opportunities that create options, opportunities that create choices, and opportunities that allow our friends to show and share the beauty and wisdoms of their culture.
We are truly honored to have helped the Backyard Ultra Championships for Mexico come to life. This platform has given our friends in the Sierra Tarahumara a chance to not only show their special endurance running abilities, but also the simple, humble and inclusive community approach they bring to such challenges. Ultra Marathon Caballo Blanco 2022
Micah said the (Copper Canyon Ultramarathon) Ultra Marathon Caballo Blanco was a race created and sponsored by Korima. This is as true today as it nearly 20 years ago when he first had the idea of a run that would support the Raramuri (Tarahumara) community and introduce so many to these special lands and this wonderful community and it’s running culture. Ramirez Family to participate in the Born to Run Ultras 2022
The Ramirez family is a treasure of the Sierra Tarahumara. A living representation of all that is special about the Raramuri people and their running culture. Every member of the family possesses extraordinary endurance running talent, but with humility it is not personal accolades they seek, their focus is to honor the role running has in the Raramuri community and share those traditions with everyone. They desire to pass along the meanings, expressions and importance running has for the Raramuri and its connection with the Earth and one another.

Copper Canyons Endurance Runs
With support from the CCER team and all the International Athletes that made their way down to experience the magic of the Sierra Tarahumara we were able to provide entries. some transportation, dispensias and prize monies for the Marathon and Half Marathon events. Local Covid related restrictions limited Raramuri athlete participation and caused the postponement of the 100 mile, but all turned out great and it was an great event for everyone involved. As always we are honored to do whatever we can to help participate in keeping the great running traditions of the Sierra Tarahumara alive and growing.
Busuréliami Radio Broadcast
True Messages is excited to be able to sponsor and support the production of the Busureliami Radio program along with Tierra Nativa and Makawi. This program represents a significant opportunity to further the knowledge and education of the Raramuri youth on the wisdoms and learnings from their grandparents and all the grandparents before them.
We plan on making on making these broadcasts available for everyone to enjoy. Even though they will be in the Raramuri language, the programs include music and song and other elements that everyone will be able to experience and appreciate.

Caballo Blanco Remembrance Run
On Saturday March 27th, now nine years after the passing of Micah True (Caballo Blanco), Raramuri Corredores from Urique and Batopilas Canyons gathered together to retrace backwards from Urique the original Copper Canyon Ultra Maratón towards the Establo de Caballo Blanco in Batopilas in honor of Micah and these lands and people that he so loved. True Messages was able to host and sponsor this event via all those that support our efforts to continue to create opportunities in the Sierra Tarahumara. Athletes included legendary runners Arnulfo Quimare, Manuel Luna and Salvatore Ramirez.
Honoring Miguel Lara Viniegra
On March 25th we honored Miguel Lara Viniegra. This young man is an inspiration. He is one of the most successful endurance runners in all of Latin America but it is his character and approach to all of life that endears him to so many. Kind, humble, and giving he has become the pride of not only the local Raramuri communities and Urique, but also Chihuahua and all of Mexico.
Barefoot Ted and Luna to take the lead on the Busureliame project
True Messages is super excited to announce additional support from the Luna Sandal company and team lead by Barefoot Ted and Liv Irem McDonald. Luna has always supported True Messages and of course has been helping our Raramuri friends in the Sierra for over a decade, but now they will be taking the lead support on perhaps our most important project - the Busureliame Cultural Education effort
Remembrance Run
As you may be aware, thanks to all those that support True Messages we had been able to secure Micah’s ‘Establo del Caballo Blanco’ (Micah’s old humble home in the Batopilas Canyon). We are excited to announce that it will soon become a museum of sorts and place to come start a run, or a hike to Urique with Arnulfo Quimare (who will be the caretaker) or a local Raramuri guide, or just a place to visit and share a Message or two.

These are greatly challenging times for all of us. For some of our friends however, the effects of the Corona Virus has added to an already difficult stretch. Sadly, this has been the case for the Raramuri people and those who call the Copper Canyons home. The most recent impact has been the postponement of the Ultra Marathon Caballo Blanco and Los Caballitos Runs (kids races). Micah True created the (then called Copper Canyon Ultra Marathon and later changed to honor his passing) Ultra Caballo Blanco to help introduce the beauty of the Raramuri people, their culture and their lands to endurance athletes around the world
More Korima from Trail Racing Over Texas

Godparents Christmas Project
For the last several years a group of kind and loving folks in Chihuahua has organized a project that brings holiday gifts and much needed school and health supplies to the children of the Sierra Tarahumara. Every year more and more ‘Godfathers and Godmothers’ support the program and it has become a magical thing that the children are so very excited for. This year even more Sleds (trucks and trailers filled with gifts) will make there way to the Barrancas and distribute the joy and love to hundreds of young Raramuri kids. We are thankful for all those that support and coordinate these efforts and we are thankful for those that support True Messages such that it allows us to also contribute to this wonderful project of love. Korima is the greatest message of all!
Compassion Copper Canyon
The mission of Compassion Copper Canyon began with Dr. Dawkins and her husband Alan traveling to Mexico for the 16th annual Caballo Blanco Ultramarathon in March of 2018. The region of the Copper Canyons within the Sierra Madre Occidental is brutally beautiful, difficult to reach, and hard on its inhabitants. They fell in love with the area and were inspired to help. They returned again in December 2018, this time with their two small children driving 30 hours to get there. They filled the back of their old Ford pickup truck with clothes they and friends donated, children's toys for a Christmas toy drive, and, of course, veterinary supplies….
Earth Runners Launches Support Project
Inspired by our Raramuri friends simple approach to natural design footwear Earth Runners was created to make barefoot adventure sandals that maintain our connection to the earth, while allowing us to operate and explore even on the wildest landscape this planet has to offer.
Earth Runners wanted to give back and support the Raramuri peoples and culture and we are excited to announce they have launched “1% For the Tarahumara” project supporting True Messages. Thanks most kindly Amigos!
