Join us for the 21st Annual Ultra Marathon Caballo Blanco: Run Free, Embrace Korima, and Support the Raramuri Communities!
Welcome to the official announcement of the 2024 Ultra Marathon Caballo Blanco! In its 21st year, this iconic event continues to bring together runners from all over the world for a remarkable journey through the stunning Sierra Tarahumara. More than just a race, the Ultra Marathon Caballo Blanco embodies the spirit of Korima – the Raramuri concept of sharing without expectation – and serves as a platform to support the Raramuri communities and these amazing runners who have been an integral part of this extraordinary event from the very beginning.
The Ultra Marathon Caballo Blanco was founded with a noble purpose - to provide assistance and recognition to the Raramuri communities and runners of the Sierra Tarahumara. Inspired by the Raramuri's extraordinary running abilities and their harmonious connection with nature, Micah True, known as El Caballo Blanco, envisioned an event that would celebrate their heritage while promoting cultural exchange and understanding. Korima is at the heart of this event, symbolizing the ethos of sharing, supporting, and uplifting others without expecting anything in return.

‘Corre Libre’ Micah True Memorial Run
On the side of Micah's cabin in Batopilas is now written "Caballo Blanco is not dead because he lives in the hearts of Raramuri runners." This weekend Raramuri runners honored Micah with a run on some of his favorite trails in the majestic Sierra Tarahumara. The race ended in the Raramuri village of Sorichiqui with a festival full of music, dancing, lots of food, tesguino and celebration.
True Messages is honored to have supported this event. (more)

2004 Copper Canyon to Canyon Run
Sunday, March 21; 2004
The third running of the bi-annual Copper Canyon to Canyon Trail Marathon+, took place this hot first day of spring. This run was from the deep canyon town of Urique, to the other deep canyon town of Batopilas. The distance is 27-29 miles of rock, steep climb and descent, some dirt road along two rivers, crossing of pine forests on soft single track trail at 6,000 feet, about 13,000 feet of accumulated up and down, more rocks, and plenty of other pluses. This season´s run was plus 100 degree heat!
7 Raramuri {Tarahumara runners}, displayed incredible performances of what can only be described as world class athleticism to arrive at the finish in 5 hours and some change. One could not imagine the significance of this achievement without having been here and having hiked these trails.

Copper Canyon Marathon [Urique to Batopilas]
Sunday, March 23, 200:
This was a beautiful weekend in the deep canyon country of La Sierra Madre. On Saturday they came, walking into the plaza of Urique from ranchos hidden in the protective folds of La Sierra Madre and Batopilas canyon. We all hung out in a really nice hotel, Estrella Del Rio [star of the river], ate from a huge pot of pozole [corn and goat stew]. Even the vegetarian Caballo Blanco partook of this Korima [gift]; then had a good nights sleep in the deluxe hotel room. In the morning we ate more pozole, then the run began (MORE…)

Ultra Marathon Caballo Blanco 2022
Micah said the (Copper Canyon Ultramarathon) Ultra Marathon Caballo Blanco was a race created and sponsored by Korima. This is as true today as it nearly 20 years ago when he first had the idea of a run that would support the Raramuri (Tarahumara) community and introduce so many to these special lands and this wonderful community and it’s running culture. Ramirez Family to participate in the Born to Run Ultras 2022
The Ramirez family is a treasure of the Sierra Tarahumara. A living representation of all that is special about the Raramuri people and their running culture. Every member of the family possesses extraordinary endurance running talent, but with humility it is not personal accolades they seek, their focus is to honor the role running has in the Raramuri community and share those traditions with everyone. They desire to pass along the meanings, expressions and importance running has for the Raramuri and its connection with the Earth and one another.

2008 Copper Canyon Ultra (Race Report)
A Blog by Ceci Lio of Spain from his experience running the 2008 edition of the (now) Ultra Maraton Caballo Blanco (includes results which can also be found on Ultrasignup. While some of his post represents opinions or his understanding, it is a great share about the Sierra and the race at this time.
Copper Canyons Endurance Runs
With support from the CCER team and all the International Athletes that made their way down to experience the magic of the Sierra Tarahumara we were able to provide entries. some transportation, dispensias and prize monies for the Marathon and Half Marathon events. Local Covid related restrictions limited Raramuri athlete participation and caused the postponement of the 100 mile, but all turned out great and it was an great event for everyone involved. As always we are honored to do whatever we can to help participate in keeping the great running traditions of the Sierra Tarahumara alive and growing.
Busuréliami Radio Broadcast
True Messages is excited to be able to sponsor and support the production of the Busureliami Radio program along with Tierra Nativa and Makawi. This program represents a significant opportunity to further the knowledge and education of the Raramuri youth on the wisdoms and learnings from their grandparents and all the grandparents before them.
We plan on making on making these broadcasts available for everyone to enjoy. Even though they will be in the Raramuri language, the programs include music and song and other elements that everyone will be able to experience and appreciate.

"Light, is a gift given in the spirit. Breathe in the dawn to the Universe. Breathe out a prayer to yourself. Will you ever begin to understand the meaning of the very soil beneath your feet? From a grain of sand, to a great mountain, all is sacred. Yesterday and tomorrow, eternally exists in this sacred place." - Augustine Ramos, Raramuri Shaman.

Caballo Blanco Remembrance Run
On Saturday March 27th, now nine years after the passing of Micah True (Caballo Blanco), Raramuri Corredores from Urique and Batopilas Canyons gathered together to retrace backwards from Urique the original Copper Canyon Ultra Maratón towards the Establo de Caballo Blanco in Batopilas in honor of Micah and these lands and people that he so loved. True Messages was able to host and sponsor this event via all those that support our efforts to continue to create opportunities in the Sierra Tarahumara. Athletes included legendary runners Arnulfo Quimare, Manuel Luna and Salvatore Ramirez.

These are greatly challenging times for all of us. For some of our friends however, the effects of the Corona Virus has added to an already difficult stretch. Sadly, this has been the case for the Raramuri people and those who call the Copper Canyons home. The most recent impact has been the postponement of the Ultra Marathon Caballo Blanco and Los Caballitos Runs (kids races). Micah True created the (then called Copper Canyon Ultra Marathon and later changed to honor his passing) Ultra Caballo Blanco to help introduce the beauty of the Raramuri people, their culture and their lands to endurance athletes around the world
